Developer Update 27-10-2014

Hi developer and followers of UpStage!

In the last few weeks, we mainly worked on our comparison matrix for the researched technologies.
First of all, we have to admit that we didn’t discuss the problem domain thoroughly before we conducted our research. There are information mismatches between our research area and current UpStage product.
An analysis of current result, we knew we need to research on different technologies for later UpStage development. However, we ignored an important point that our research must base upon current UpStage development. As a result, our research lost connection with current UpStage. This fact also increases the difficulty on preparing the proof of concepts for corresponding technologies.
This situation has significantly reduced our team productivity. Our supervisor, Anne also pointed this out as an outstanding issue. We needed to prepare our plans in more details and how we could manage changes whenever the same situations arise.

Well, from our point of view, we think that it is better to be honest than doing meaningless work all along. This incident also gives us an idea that we should always prepare our plan in an approachable way in the future UpStage development. We will keep this lesson in our minds in our future research and development activities.

This is the last week of semester 2, 2014. James, Xiangyu and Takuma will prepare on their project profolio, reflective reports and poster. It is a great pleasure to work with them as a team. We appreciate their contribution and wish them well in their future careers.

The remaining team will get an executable schedule over the summer by the end of this week. We want to use some of our summer time to catch up with current UpStage as much as possible. This will allow us to support new members for next year.

You are also welcome to share your experience on handling our current difficulty in the team.

Sincerely

Takuma Sato & Yue Li
