“We need culture – like air to breathe” is the English translation of the title of an installation currently in the foyer of the Kunsthaus Graz (Austria), which includes an online element in UpStage.
From 27 February to 21 March 2025, visitors to Kunsthaus Graz can experience video animation, postcards, and a growing poster project, as well as interact with the project via UpStage: https://upstage.live/wirbrauchenkultur. Online audiences can also access this stage to experience part of the installation.

Everyone agrees that culture is important for education, society and the rule of law. However, funding for culture is currently being massively cut. This does not yet affect large institutions such as the Kunsthaus Graz. The cuts in the independent scene have an immediate and massive impact. This project is a collective protest to raise awareness.

The magazine ausreißer has been published for 20 years as a critical, non-commercial wall newspaper, folded edition and online version and operates at the interface between journalism, literature and art.

Man ist sich einig: Kultur ist wichtig für Bildung, Gesellschaft und Rechtsstaat. Die Förderung von Kultur wird aktuell aber massiv gestrichen. Große Institutionen wie das Kunsthaus Graz betrifft das noch nicht. Die Kürzungen in der freien Szene wirken sofort und haben massive Auswirkungen. Dieses Projekt ist ein kollektiver Protest, der Bewusstsein schaffen soll.

Die Zeitschrift ausreißer erscheint seit 20 Jahren als kritische, nicht kommerzielle Wandzeitung, Faltausgabe und Onlineversion und agiert an der Schnittstelle zwischen Journalismus, Literatur und Kunst.
