A new version of the UpStage software, v3.0.0., will be officially released on 28 May 2025 with a presentation at the Libre Graphics Meeting in Nürnberg, Germany. For those not in Nürnberg, there will be two online sessions the following week to introduce you to the new features:
Tuesday 3 June, 21:00 CET – find your local time here.
Thursday 5 June, 10:00 CET – find your local time here.
The sessions will be held on the Demo stage; if you already have a player account on upstage.live you can log in and join the session – you will need to use the “forgot password” link in the login window to reset your password first. If you don’t have an account, click on “Register” in the top right-hand corner of the Foyer to create an account, or email info@upstage.org.nz to request a Guest account.
A lot of the changes in this release are in the back-end, making the code more stable and bringing big improvements for the installation of new UpStage instances. For artists, the many enhancements include:
- stabilised streaming: we still have the options of streaming with individual webcams or the meeting tool for discussions; now for the individual streams there is also a refresh button, so that anyone (audience or player) who has issues with a stream can easily refresh.
- enhanced permissions system: artists now have more control over how to share their media; the enhanced system includes notifications, so that you will receive an email when another player wants to use your media, and can decide whether or not to allow it and how it should be acknowledged.
- finer control of multi-frame animations: instead of adjusting a slider, you now enter a number of seconds to determine the speed of a multi-frame animation; this allows for much greater control, particularly if you want a very slow change.
