Why do software awards always forget the arts?

Last year, UpStage received special mention in the the Creativity category of the New Zealand Open Source Awards. This category didn’t exist until we asked the organisers why there wasn’t a category for the arts. UpStage met the criteria for both the education category and the community category, but didn’t have a chance in either because it’s not our main purpose. As we weren’t the only project in this situation, the organisers created a new category, Creativity.

Now, UpStage has been nominated for the SourceForge Community Choice Awards; have we got a chance in “Best Project”, or “Most Likely To Change The World” …?? we’re still missing the arts category!
