This Privacy Policy describes the current policies and practices of UpStage Live Ltd (herein “UpStage”, “we”, “us”, “our”) with respect to the collection, use and retention of your personal information through your use of the UpStage software at https://upstage.live/ and/or our website at https://upstage.org.nz/.

The purpose of this policy is to meet the requirements of the NewZealand Privacy Act 2020, the European Union GDPR and other applicable laws and standards regarding the collection, retention, use, disclosure, protection and access to personal information.

For the purposes of this policy, the expression “personal information” means any information concerning an individual that allows them to be identified directly or indirectly, such as their username, postal address, e-mail address, telephone number and any information of a financial nature.

COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

UpStage operates on the principle of data minimisation: we only collect information that is necessary for your use of UpStage.

When you visit the website at https://upstage.org.nz/ we do not collect any personal information. If you choose to subscribe to our mailing lists, you are only required to provide an email address.

When you request a Player account on UpStage.Live, we collect the following personal information about you:

  • a username that you choose;
  • a password that you choose;
  • your email address;
  • a short statement about why you want an UpStage account;
  • you may also enter your first and last name, but this is not required.

We use the information thus collected for the following purposes:

  • to establish that your account request is genuine before being approved;
  • to send you information about updates, maintenance and/or service interruption to UpStage.Live;
  • to share information about upcoming workshops, performances and other events on UpStage.Live, or any news or information that is directly relevant to those using UpStage.Live;
  • for any other purpose required by law.

TRACKING

We use technologies that enable us to track the use of our website and our social networking accounts in order to improve our online presence. For example, the UpStage website uses the open-source WordPress plugin WP Statistics to collect statistics such as the duration of visits and browers used.

Analytics or statistics software may collect information such as:

  • a partial and anonymous version of the Internet Protocol address (IP address);
  • browser and device type;
  • operating system;
  • approximate country, region and city information;
  • date and time of visit;
  • the pages consulted;
  • the originating (referring) and exiting web page;
  • interactions with page content;
  • the origin of your visit.

We do not use this information to identify you, but rather to understand trends in the use of our website and to improve our services.

INFORMATION PROVIDED ON SOCIAL NETWORKS

We collect information transmitted by social networking sites or applications when a visitor interacts with profiles managed by us on these social networking platforms. These platforms are governed by their own policies relating to your personal information, which may differ from ours. If you choose to interact with us through these social networks, you should first read the terms of service and privacy policies of these third-party service providers and the applications used to access them.

HOSTING OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

If you have a Player account on UpStage.Live, your personal information is stored on servers managed by Digital Ocean; read their privacy policy here. Digital Ocean is a USA-based company that operates globally. Its servers are located in New York City.

RETENTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

We will retain in our computer systems all personal information collected for the duration of your use of UpStage, in particular to validate your identity if you have a Player account. If you stop using UpStage and close your account, partial information may still be retained for archival purposes. All such data can be deleted upon request.

SECURITY

The personal information we collect is kept in a secure environment and we respect the confidentiality of your information. To ensure the security of your personal information, we use the following measures:

  • Secure Socket Layers (SSL) technology to access tools via HTTPS protocol;
  • Network monitoring software;
  • Computer backup;
  • Data encryption on hard disk;
  • Firewalls.

We are committed to maintaining a high degree of confidentiality by incorporating the best practices to ensure the privacy of your transactions. We do not ask for sensitive personal information in our written correspondence with you, and we use secure strategies and means of communication for the transmission of sensitive data such as passwords. However, as no approach offers perfect security, an element of risk is always present when using the Internet to transmit personal information.

SPAM (UNSOLICITED EMAIL)

We comply with current legislation and regulations in regards with unsolicited email (spam). If you no longer wish to receive electronic communications from us, or if you feel that you have received inappropriate or unwanted communications, please follow the unsubscribe mechanism found in our electronic messages.

RIGHT OF OBJECTION AND WITHDRAWAL

You have the right to object and to withdraw your personal information at any time.

The right to object is the possibility offered to internet users to refuse to allow their personal information to be used for certain purposes mentioned at the time of collection.

The right to withdraw (right to be forgotten) is the possibility offered to internet users to request that their personal information no longer appear, for example, in our registers.
