UpStage will be presented at the 2018 Eclectic Tech Carnival, to be held at XM24 in Bologna, Italy, 8-13 October.

Helen Varley Jamieson will lead a discussion session on “Open Source Sustainability”, using UpStage as an example to open a conversation on the sustainability of artist-led or community-led open source software projects. She will outline how UpStage has been able to exist for 15 years with minimal and irregular financial support, and discuss the challenges and opportunities that this brings. Other examples may be offered by the participants, and together everyone will discuss sustainable models for projects such as UpStage.

The Open Source Sustainability session takes place from 11:30 to 13:00 on Wednesday 10 October.

The /ETC is a self-organised feminist tech and art skill-sharing event that has manifested around Europe since 2001. There have been numerous UpStage performances and workshops at /ETCs since 2004.
