The 11:11:11 UpStage Festival is not the only transnational live art event taking place on Friday 11 November: 11 European cities are taking part in Exchange Radical Moments, a festival of “moments of encounter and confrontation in the heart of everyday life”.
More than 60 artists in Berlin, Bitola, Chisinau, Linz, Liverpool, London, Paris, Prague, Riga, Słubfurt and Stockholm will present performances, interventions and actions, including a foot-washing ritual, recipe exchange, city tours and a transgender hotel. Like the UpStage festival, everything happens in real-time, and there is a focus on “exchange”. Some events can be accessed online, and during the breaks in the 11:11:11 UpStage Festival programme, we will broadcast the live stream from the UpStage web site.
One that sounds particularly interesting to those of us working with avatars in remote collaborative projects is The De-Othering Machine, an online interface in which participants can control animated animal avatars with their facial expressions.
EXCHANGE RADICAL MOMENTS! is tempted to make an effective break into our daily routine. Live Art projects, which interrupts the usual routine and unbalances us, hold, pause. They ask us: are we ready to engage extraordinary moments of exchange?
Full programme information is available at www.11moments.org and if you’re not in any of the participating cities, check out the live streams.
